About the festival…

The Dublin City Soul Festival has become one of the most eagerly anticipated music events in the city and it draws many of Soul Music’s biggest stars. The festival consists of several live concerts as well as a number of top international DJs. Other events include music master classes and if you drop over to Merrion Square Park you can visit Soul Picnic, which is free all day and is family friendly so you can bring the kiddies along as well.
More than 12,000 people attended the various free events and concerts throughout Dublin last May.
The 2007 festival was such a success that it won the prestigious Irish Times Living Dublin Award. Chris Maher who originally conceived the event accepted the award. Upon receiving the award he promised that the festival in 2008 would be bigger and better with even more free international acts coming to Dublin and the highlight event, Soul Picnic. In 2008 the festival will take place on Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th of May. The line up hasn’t been released yet so keep an eye on http://www.dublincitysoulfestival.ie/ for more info on the 2008 festival.
About Merrion Square Park
Merrion Square Park was the location of the first ever Soul Picnic in 2007, but don’t forget that there are other events taking place all over the city centre. If you are walking from O’Connell Street in the city centre, you simply head south over the river, and walk past Trinity College. Turn left off Grafton Street and onto Nassau Street. At the end of this street take a right onto Clare Street, which leads to Merrion Square North, which runs along the border of Merrion Square Park.
The following bus numbers will get you to Merrion Square: 27X, 44, 45, 48A, 49X, 5, 50X, 7, 77X, and 7A.
The park is located only about a 5 minutes from the nearest DART train station on Pearse Street.
The nearest Luas tram stop is just 6 minutes away on St. Stephen’s Green.
