Things to see…
Mary Immaculate, Refuge of Sinner’s Roman Catholic Church, was built in 1854 by Patrick Byrne, its style is notably Greek. The Church was later extended by W. H. Byrne. The dominant feature of this church has to be the green dome, which can be seen for miles around.
Another famous landmark to keep an eye out for is the former Rathmines Town Hall with its magnificent Clock tower.
Rathmines Library is also an impressive building, constructed in 1913, with its Baroque style exterior. This is a beautiful building and makes another wonderful photo opportunity.
Now for a building with a difference why not pop along to Kodak House? This art deco building was constructed in around the 1930′s and is a stark contrast in styles to the above-mentioned buildings.
Cathal Brugha Barracks or Portobello Barracks: Construction started in 1810 and finished in 1815. The barracks was re-named Cathal Brugha Barracks in May 1952 in memory of Cathal Brugha, one of the key players in the 1916 Rising and in the 1st Dáil. Today the building is occupied by the Irish Army.

Rathmines has a good variety of take-aways and fast food outlets, but for a more leisurely option, you can check out the following: Zen Chinese Restaurant on Upper Rathmines Road, Tippenaki Japanese Restaurant on Castlewood Avenue if you’d like to give Sushi a try, or Kafta on Lower Rathmines Road, for an assortment of European cuisine.

Now for the sporty types among you, why not trot along to the Leinster Sports Complex for a game of tennis or cricket? Or cast your mind back to the days of your miss-spent youth, when you could happily spend hours in the local pool hall or snooker hall. Then look no further, as Rathmines has two such establishments, namely The Edge (pool hall) and Goodfellows Club (snooker hall).

By Luas: Ranelagh is served by the Green Line Luas which stops in the area.
By bus: Ranelagh is serviced by the following bus routes: 11, 11a, 18, 44, 44n, 48a, 48n.
