Yes folks, it’s that time of year again as the Killarney Summerfest, renowned as the most entertaining and family oriented festival in Ireland’s south western region draws near!

Now in its 8th year, the Killarney Summerfest is one of the major annual events in the Cork Kerry region of Ireland. The festival will run from July 3rd to the 18th in 2009 and the Summerfest events calender is bursting with fun filled activities for all the family. Read on for more…

The historic town of Killarney is known all over the world for its magnificent beauty, and is a charming place surrounded by stunning mountain ranges and sparkling lakewater. The town has recently been named as Ireland’s Best Kept Town, the Tidiest Large Town and won the Entente Florale Gold Medal for its well manicured gardens and hanging baskets! And to cap it all off, there is a fortnight’s entertainment to be enjoyed with the wonderful Summerfest held every July! So if you are in the area, don’t forget to head to the town for some entertainment you will never forget.

The jewel in the crown of the Summerfest is the live outdoor concert that takes place at Killarney’s GAA pitch – Fitzgerald Stadium. And what a line up in store this year – the talented Pussycat Dolls will take to the stage on Saturday July 18th. The fivesome, led by lead singer Nicole Scherzinger, have sold millions of records worldwide, and are guaranteed to draw a huge crowd. The support acts have yet to be confirmed, but shall be in the coming weeks! Tickets are priced at €57.80 including booking fee and are available from the INEC and Ticketmaster. Past performers at Fitzgerald Stadium include Pink, Snow Patrol, Bryan Adams, Westlife and Meatloaf, so the ladies on their Doll Domination Tour are in esteemed company!

The Irish National Events Centre (INEC), which is located at the Gleneagle Hotel will also host some great live musical entertainment throughout the Killarney Summerfest. Some of the acts performing at the venue are singer Tommy Fleming plus Fifi and the Flowertots for the younger members of the family!

The Festival is a wonderful place for families. And no better place to enjoy it than on the streets of the town, as there will be live musical entertainment, street theatre productions, busking, and the International Street Performers Competition that attracts performers from all around the globe which runs from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th July. And don’t forget the wonderful Outdoor Traditional Arts Show run by Spraoi Chiarrai.

There is a proposed Carnival Community Arts Parade to be enjoyed. There will be Arts and Creativity Workshops and an Arts and Crafts Summercamp at the KDYS Youth Centre during the festival. Due to the success of 2008′s “Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table” there will be a continuation of the Summerfest’s outdoor art production, with Merlin the Magician being the theme for this years show on Tuesday, 7th July in Muckross House Gardens. There will also be a Killarney Summerfest Art Exhibition called “Our World” at Killarney Library from Friday July 3rd to Saturday July 11th.
