Looking for somewhere to ring in 2010? Well Dublin is a city that really knows how to throw a party! There’s no doubt the pubs and clubs will each have their own countdown but we have done a lot of searching and found a few other events that you may be interested in.
The New Years Eve Gala Ball at the National Concert Hall is one of the hottest tickets in town! This annual event is also a major fixture on New Year’s Eve and is the perfect opportunity to get dressed up in your finery and enjoy a relaxing evening of classic music. The show will feature Tony Christie, the RTE Concert Orchestra, Big Band and special guest Honor Heffernan. This is always a sell out event and limited tickets are still available.
Another very popular event is the ringing of the bells at Christchurch Cathedral. This ancient medieval cathedral can be found in a historic part of the city close to Dublin Castle and the old city walls. The cathedral’s famous bells (19 in total!) claim to have one of the largest bell peals in the world. It’s a tradition on New Years Eve in Dublin city to wrap up warm and gather outside the cathedral to listen to the bells ring in the New Year.
All the bars and clubs across the city will be planning their own New Years celebrations and countdown on the night. Bars will be heaving while queues outside nightclubs will form early.
Of course, if you’re looking for a glamorous black-tie ball, there’s plenty of those too. Some Dublin hotels holding black tie gala balls include; Clontarf Castle, the City West Hotel and Fitzpatrick’s Castle Hotel to name a few.
Don’t forget to head for Dublin city centre on New Year’s Day to watch the fantastic New Years Day Parade. Marching bands from Ireland, the UK, Europe and the US will march through Dublin city centre.
These are just some of the events in Dublin for NYE that we have come across. If you know of any more events or activities, please do let us know!
